Cowboys and the afterglow

Last night and this evening were highly enjoyable. After a quick introduction at the school board meeting, I went to the film festival in Saratoga, Wyoming. It's "close" to Rawlins (approx. 40 miles away). I saw "Sky High"- a dramatic cowboy flick produced in 1921. It was a silent film and a small orchestra came to play the music for it live. It was memorable, as was the sunset on the way home.

Tonight, I went back and met a fellow teacher there. We saw a documentary made in 1970 about three cowboys 'round these parts. I felt like I was watching one really long Marlboro commercial. One cowboy reguarded a PhD. as a "post hole digger" and another thought the three components of life were sleep, work, and entertain yourself. (I don't know if I could argue with him.) Their entertainment came from putting children on maniac horses and seeing how long they could hold on and avoid getting a concussion or vital organ stepped on. However, it did truly fall under the category of "entertainment."

After the movies, the announcer mentioned that there would be an after party in the Wolflodge where people would be able to get their "afterglow." I declined the invitation, but am beginning to realize just how much of the culture an "afterglow" really is.

I think I'll drop into the first cowboy category instead: sleep.
